Tackling The Cost Of Living In Lambeth
Lambeth Labour is acting now to help with bills, food and fares. We have:
- Secured a discount of £405 on the average yearly water bill for thousands of residents and took tough enforcement action against Thames Water.
- Protected the freedom pass for over 33,000 residents
- Supported families with free school meal vouchers, money off energy bills & emergency hardship payments

What We Have Delivered
Food And Essentials
Lambeth has worked with food banks, community pantries and charities to ensure no family goes hungry. The council directed Household Support Fund money to frontline organisations with the networks to reach the most vulnerable, prioritising children, pensioners and disabled residents (Source: Lambeth Council – Household Support Fund).
Transport
The Freedom Pass is a lifeline for older and disabled Lambeth residents. Lambeth Labour has protected it for over 33,000 people, ensuring they can get to medical appointments, food shops and community events without worrying about travel costs (Source: Transport for London – Older Person’s Freedom Pass).
Schools
Free school meals for all primary pupils and expanded free breakfast clubs mean children in Lambeth start the day fed and ready to learn. These programmes directly reduce financial pressure on families with school-age children (Source: Greater London Authority); Source: National School Breakfast Programme).
Our Priorities Going Forward
– Continue protecting and growing the Freedom Pass so older and disabled residents keep free travel across London.
– Maintain free gym and swim and expand access to affordable leisure for all Lambeth residents.
– Ensure cost of living support reaches the households and communities that need it most through targeted grants and voluntary sector partnerships.
– Keep pressing central government for fairer funding so Lambeth can sustain and grow the support it provides to residents facing financial hardship.
-Free gym and swim open to all Lambeth residents under 16-years old. This initiative will give every child under 16-years old access to quality leisure facilities at no cost, improving physical and mental health across the borough (Source: Lambeth Labour – Free Gym and Swim).
Lambeth Labour will keep fighting to ease the pressure on household budgets, whether that is through free services, targeted grants or campaigning for a fairer deal for our residents from the government.
