In 2022, we committed to making Lambeth the best place to grow up for children and young people and we’ve worked hard every single day to make this a reality.
This month alone shows the progress we’re making. We had the Prime Minister come to Lambeth to launch a new consultation on children’s screen time, and the Minister for Equalities visited to celebrate the partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Schools Minister also visited as we secured an additional £3.5 million to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
So how are we doing? Well, we’ll let you be the judge:
- 17,000 free meals for Lambeth children during the holidays
- Ten new free breakfast clubs in Lambeth primary schools
- Free books for over 5,600 children EVERY SINGLE MONTH
- Free childcare for over 4,000 children – worth up to £7,500 for each family
- Free swimming for under 11s in Lambeth at our in-house leisure centres
And we’ll go further if re-elected!
- Free gym and swim for under-16-year-olds
- More free breakfast clubs at our primary schools
- More play and safe spaces for young people – investing in adventure playgrounds, youth clubs and safe community spaces, with £2.4million available in 2026/27 alone.
- Increase specialist school places and family support so more children with SEND can thrive close to home, including a new site at Kings Avenue School.
- Expand mentoring programmes, support teachers, and work with schools to make them smartphone-free and deliver better outcomes for young people.
And so much more! Because Labour believes children should have hungry minds, not hungry bellies.
