SAVE LAMBETH’S STATION TICKET OFFICES

The Tory Government and the privatised rail industry recently announced plans to close up to 1,000 railway station ticket offices across the railway network including all station ticket offices in Lambeth. These proposals, should they go ahead, will not only lead to the wholesale de-staffing of stations, but will also make train travel more difficult for many across our borough.

Lambeth Labour is opposed to these closures because they will restrict passenger’s access to the cheapest fares and tickets, worsen passenger service and have a dangerous impact on passenger safety and accessibility of our stations, whilst putting many local railway workers’ jobs at risk of redundancy.

Ticket Office staff are a vital part of the journey for many passengers. We are concerned the closure of ticket offices will disproportionately affect disabled, deaf and older residents in Lambeth – as well as those without the necessary IT skills or those facing language barriers.

The process for closing ticket offices is subject to a three-week public consultation overseen by passenger watchdog London Travelwatch and Lambeth Labour is helping to mobilise and campaign for a massive response to oppose these proposals. So please sign the petition to support our campaign against the closures.
