More Free Breakfast Clubs Announced in Lambeth!

Breakfast clubs boost children’s learning, school attendance and support working parents with the continual juggle of fitting work around the school day.

Studies show that breakfast clubs can help children make two additional months of progress in their core reading, writing and maths skills.

They also boost school attendance and improve behaviour because children have a chance to settle down and start their day at a club with friends not going straight into lessons.

At the same time, we know parents have struggled with the soaring cost of childcare and childcare pressures are restricting the jobs that parents. The clubs will support parents to work the jobs and hours they choose not be restricted by school drop-offs, and save money on childcare.

Breakfast clubs are Labour values in action, helping families out with the support they need most.

We currently have four in Lambeth at our primary schools, with another six opening soon at:

  • Archbishop Sumner Church of England Primary School
  • Evolve Academy
  • St John’s Angell Town Church of England Primary School
  • St Stephen’s Church of England Primary School
  • Vauxhall Primary School
  • Wyvil Primary School

The breakfast clubs build on the work Lambeth Labour is currently doing. This year, over 16,000 families have been provided with financial support during the school holidays, expanding eligibility and provision of Free School Meals (FSM) and helping more families on low incomes.

In addition to the thousands of children already receiving free school meals in Lambeth, the council has auto-enrolled over 1,500 additional pupils through our auto-award approach, saving families around £600 per child each year and securing £3 million in extra funding for Lambeth schools.

In 2022, Lambeth Labour pledged to work to end child poverty and make Lambeth the best borough to grow up and age well in. These new breakfast clubs are a key step in delivering on that.
