Streatham will be connected to the Overground network after it was announced today that TfL will take over the running of inner London rail services.
Streatham residents can now look forward to more frequent, more reliable and less crowded services.
The Southeastern route which serves Brixton and Herne Hill will come under TfL control in 2018, with the Southern and Thameslink lines which covers Streatham, Tulse Hill, West Norwood and Gipsy Hilll following in 2021.
Oveground integration emerged as the key demand of the 'Back on Track' Streatham Transport Campaign which grew out of a public meeting organised by Cllr Hopkins, Cabinet Member for Jobs & Growth last January.
Details of the deal can be found here.
Cllr Jack Hopkins, said:
"This is brilliant news. Since the first meeting last January we have been lobbying for Streatham - writing and meeting with Transport for London, Members of Parliament, London Assembly Members, the Mayor and the Transport Minister. The standard of service on these lines is just not good enough and commuters are completely fed up. The hard work is not over but we are getting there."
