Labour announces candidates for local elections

Lambeth Labour has announced its full slate of candidates for the borough's local elections on 3rd May. Labour is standing 63 candidates across all 21 wards in Lambeth, with 18 candidates standing for election for the first time. In 2014, Labour won its best ever result in the borough, winning 59 seats out of 63 and electing councillors in all but one of the borough's wards.

Labour is standing more candidates from black and minority ethnic backgrounds than the previous election and 43% of Labour candidates are women. Candidates standing for the first time include local community activists, small business owners, charity workers and campaigners with a wealth of experience and knowledge about the issues that Lambeth residents care about.

Lambeth Labour leader Councillor Lib Peck said: "I'm proud that Lambeth Labour is putting forward a fantastic and diverse group of candidates standing in every part of Lambeth. Labour's candidates reflect the full range of Lambeth's diverse communities and have the talent and experience to deliver on our ambitious and positive manifesto.

From experienced councillors who have been helping local people for years to first-time candidates who know the challenges that private renters face in the borough, I'm proud that Labour is leading the way on representing Lambeth residents. Whether it's running community projects on their estates, being a youth worker, setting up local community projects to help homeless people or running a small business, our candidates know the challenges and issues our residents face because they live them every day - and that's why they're best placed to represent them in the Town Hall."
