Government plans could kill our high street

Councillor Jack Hopkins has warned that proposed changes to planning rules could have dire consequences for Lambeth’s high streets.

The Tory-led Government say the changes will make the planning system less “convoluted, confusing, expensive and…ineffective”, but Lambeth’s Jobs & Regeneration Lead believes they could drive out Lambeth’s many SMEs.

Cllr Hopkins is leading calls for the proposals to be thrown out. He has written to the heads of Lambeth’s Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), urging them to use their voice to object to the proposals, which he says are bad for business and restrict the supply of good quality, affordable homes for local people.
