Lambeth backs electric vehicle future for London

Today I wrote to the Secretary of State for Transport to express Lambeth's support for ambitious plans for the future of electric vehicles in London. By backing the London-wide bid to ensure significant investment in improving infrastructure and encouraging the switch to ultra low emissions vehicles, we can deliver desperately needed improvements in our air quality and significantly reduce our carbon emissions.

Poor air quality causes nearly 9,500 premature deaths in London each year and in Lambeth, some roads exceeded the annual legal limit on toxic emissions after just four days of the new year. Improving air quality is one of the our top priorities and we wanted to support this bid, alongside our Clean Buses campaign and other measures we are taking to tackle.

Cllr Jenny Brathwaite, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability
