This petition asks the Mayor of London to support the extension of the Santander Cycles hire scheme to Clapham, specifically asking Transport for London to install the cycle docking stations at Clapham Common Station and Clapham High Street Station
Lambeth Labour and local councillors are launching a new petition asking the Mayor of London to extend the Santander Cycles hire scheme to Clapham to
ensure local residents get access to improved cycling resources.
Since the launch of the cycle hire scheme in 2008 there have been over 52 million journeys, but the last Tory Mayor showed little interest in extending the programme into most parts of south London. Lambeth Labour has made improving access to cycling a top priority, providing cycle storage hangers in many streets and supporting proposed cycle highways throughout the borough. But in areas like Clapham a significant boost would be given to cycling if new Santander Cycles were offered in an area where there is high demand for them.
Our petition encourages the new Mayor of London and Transport for London to install the cycle docking stations at Clapham Common Station and Clapham High Street Station. These stations see over 11 million visitors a year and are major transport interchanges. Having docking stations in these areas would allow residents and commuters to travel in an environmentally friendly manner and ease pressure on a busy transport network. Extending the scheme would be an effective and important way of encouraging people out of their cars and onto bikes: it is a classic no brainer.
Lambeth Labour is committed to making a leap forward to become a place where cycling is normal for everyone: young, old, women, men, rich and the less well off. It is part of our agenda to be fair and ambitious for all our residents. If you share this vision, then join with our campaign by signing our petition.
