Bakerloo extension: Strong support for Lambeth-backed option

Transport for London have revealed strong support for a new underground station in Camberwell. The results of the consultation on the route of the  Bakerloo Line extension show 78% of Lambeth residents support the extension of the Bakerloo line via Camberwell. Support was particularly strong in Vassall and Coldharbour wards.

While Lambeth Council is committed to developing new transport links in the borough and were  disappointed that none of the consultation options contained a Lambeth option, we nevertheless supported the Camberwell option over the alternative proposal, which would have seen the route go through distant Old Kent Road.

The Camberwell option will be much better for residents in Lambeth and especially in Vassall and Coldharbour wards who have to rely on over-crowded bus services to get around. And if the route gets the green light it will produce jobs and apprenticeships for local people.
