Lambeth Labour News from the Labour councillors in the London Borough of Lambeth

Following a competitive procurement process, Lambeth’s Waste Contract, which includes recycling and estate maintenance, is to be awarded to Serco as of 1 October 2021.
GMB have a network of officers, reps and convenors on this contract and intend to work with Serco to achieve a good working relationship. The council administration and GMB have jointly agreed that the contract will deliver:
- Recognition of trade unions including with subcontractors:
- Payment of the London Living Wage or higher including by subcontractors
- No decreases in staff numbers or compulsory redundancies with staff transferring under TUPE and no detrimental changes in terms and conditions
- Full consultation with staff and unions on any proposed changes throughout the term of the contract.
As well as delivering significant savings to the council at a time of Tory austerity, the contract will ensure job security and enhanced terms and conditions for our waste service workers, who have worked throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to serve our communities.
