Cllr Mohammed Seedat has written to Cressida Dick CBE QPM, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, and Sophie Linden, the Deputy Mayor of London for Policing and Crime, concerning the political speech that the Prime Minister gave in front of a backdrop of Police Officers.
12 September 2019
Dear Commissioner and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime,
Would you both be able to confirm no Metropolitan Police Service officers – trainee or otherwise – will be permitted for use as backdrop props for the Prime Minister or any ministers, as he did so in West Yorkshire on 5th September 2019?
I note both John Apter, Chairman of the Police Federation for England and Wales, and John Robins, Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police, have publicly registered their discontent at the way a celebratory event was hijacked for political gain.
I am sure you agree, with significant budget cuts to the Metropolitan Police, totaling over £1 Billion by 2023, with increased violence and fewer police officers, this city can ill-afford to spare hard-working police officers for the Prime Minister’s amusement.
I look forward to your response.
